Living with a Disability as a Hispanic

You wake up every day in a body with aches, pain and weakness. You constantly have to fight for your independence with your family because to them, “estas malito.” You're tired of having to take multiple medications, go to doctors appointments, and have procedures done. You keep a happy face hiding how you feel. Yet you feel others see you and think “pobrecito.” You are tired of all the components of your disability, but most of all the depression and anxiety that come with it.

Providing Therapy to Individuals with a Disability

I help my client decrease the mental health impact that a disability can ignite. While a disability may limit your level of independence, the mental health issues that arise impact your ability to have a fulfilling life. I help Hispanics with physical disabilities Such as: spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, and other neurological disorders that impact a person’s ability to fully ambulate. I help my clients gain their independence in a culture that believes a disability is an illness. I provide my clients with therapy to gain an understanding of the strengths they have, that will give them a fulfilling life.

Benefits of Seeing a Therapist

Without taking the time to process the loss that occurs when health issues arise, I fear you will continue to feel stuck or alone.
